Trafficking News in Utah

Sometimes trafficking, kidnapping, and rape is an uncomfortable topic that people would rather not talk about. Some may feel that it isn’t applicable to us. We assume that Utah is typically a safe and honest community. With this piece I hope to bring awareness on just how much trafficking, and related topics, has occurred here in Utah from the first settlers down to the present day. This project shouldn’t bring fear but awareness and a desire to reach out and help foundations here in Utah trying to put an end to trafficking in the state. Take a step just like you reached out to take the paper.
I have chosen to show my work in the form of a newspaper for conceptual reasons. There are newspaper stands all over town, even with online news available. Some people walk by the newspapers without even noticing them, others take a glance, some pick it up, others skim through it, and some take the time to read everything. People have a similar reaction with the topic of human trafficking.
The photographs are not of actual victims but of stand in models depicting true events. Names for personal stories given to me are kept anonymous. The stories found in Utah newspapers or online publications are the actual names.
